Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by one point after winning in Mexico City recently, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his team ran a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's car in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
